《飘》英语读后感篇1

miss austen never attempts to describe a scene or a class of society with which she was not herself thoroughly acquainted. the conversations of ladies with ladies, or of ladies and gentlemen together, are given, but no instance occurs of a scene in which men only are present. the uniform quality of her work is one most remarkable point to be observed in it. let a volume be opened at any place: there is the same good english, the same refined style, the same simplicity and truth. there is never any deviation into the unnatural or exaggerated; and how worthy of all love and respect is the finely disciplined genius which rejects the forcible but transient modes of stimulating interest which can so easily be employed when desired, and which knows how to trust to the never-failing principles of human nature! this very trust has sometimes been made an objection to miss austen, and she has been accused of writing dull stories about ordinary people. but her supposed ordinary people are really not such very ordinary people. let anyone who is inclined to criticise on this score endeavor to construct one character from among the ordinary people of his own acquaintance that shall be capable of interesting any reader for ten minutes. it will then be found how great has been the discrimination of miss austen in the selection of her characters, and how skillful is her treatment in the management of them. it is true that the events are for the most part those of daily life, and the feelings are those connected with the usual joys and griefs of familiar existence; but these are the very events and feelings upon which the happiness or misery of most of us depends; and the field which embraces them, to the exclusion of the wonderful, the sentimental, and the historical, is surely large enough, as it certainly admits of the most profitable cultivation.

in the end, too, the novel of daily real life is that of which we are least apt to weary: a round of fancy balls would tire the most vigorous admirers of variety in costume, and the return to plain clothes would be hailed with greater delight than their occasional relinquishment ever gives. miss austen's personages are always in plain clothes, but no two suits are alike: all are worn with their appropriate differen as we should expect from such a life, jane austen's view of the world is genial, kindly, and, we repeat, free from anything like cynicism. it is that of a clear-sighted and somewhat satirical onlooker, loving what deserves love, and amusing herself with the foibles, the self-deceptions, the affectations of humanity. refined almost to fastidiousness, she is hard upon vulgarity; not, however, on good-natured vulgarity, such as that of mrs. jennings in "sense and sensibility," but on vulgarity like that of miss steele, in the same novel, combined at once with effrontery and with meanness of soul.

《飘》英语读后感篇2

i have never been to troy, but david maule made me feel as if i were standing on the high wall of troy, watching the fierce war. thanks to this british author, who adapted the famous homersquo;s poem into a lively story, i found it easier to understand this story. though the story happened over 3000 years ago in a remote place, i was deeply fascinated by it. the mysterious plot is one of the reasons why i loved the story of troy so much, yet i am more interested in the human heroes of the war.

hector was the eldest son of king of troy, priam. he was not only a real hero of trojan, but was regarded the highest moral hero in greek classic by later historians. the war started because of the mischief of his brother, paris, whom he didnsquo;t appreciate. however, since hector was the commander of the trojan army, he was obliged to fight with all force. it was really a tragedy that such a valiant man died in the duel with another great warrior, achilles.

it is natural to see death in a war. as a famous chinese parable says, a life can be as slight as a piece of feather, or as weighty as mount tai. sometimes, onesquo;s glory walks hand in hand with onesquo;s doom. achilles was such a typical person. his personal charm made the story of troy more attractive. he was so crucial because his every appearance in a war encouraged his fellow soldiers and terrified the enemies. actually, achilles was half-god who was almost invincible in peoplesquo;s mind. thatsquo;s why his name was memorized long after his death.

besides the two great men, the wisdom of odysseus also proved him to be a great hero. he didnsquo;t want to attend the war because he was happily married and had a lovely son. however, since his country was allied to mycenae, he had to take the command given by the king of mycenae. isquo;m quite sure that the story of the wooden horse is widely known, however, few people know who thought of the brilliant idea, thatsquo;s why i admired odysseus so much because he was the person who got the idea. thanks to the horse, the ten-year war came to an end at last. if you want to know how the wooden horse worked, just read the book.

the ancient greeks believed that the gods and goddesses also played important roles in the origin, process and ending of the whole story.

the story of the golden apple was such an example. when eris, the goddess of argument and disagreement, threw out the golden apple to a wedding ceremony on mount olympus, a dispute happened. hera, the queen of gods, athena, the goddess of wisdom, and aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, were all involved in the argument for the apple. none of them was willing to give way, so they turned to paris for a final judgment. tempted by aphroditesquo;s beauty and promise, paris handed the apple to her. to keep her word, aphrodite helped him to get helen, the most beautiful woman in the world, as his wife. that was the cause of the war.

parissquo;s choice obviously annoyed the other two goddesses. so during the war, they helped the greek alliance army while some other gods, such as apollo and aphrodite, guarded troy. when paris dueled with helensquo;s former husband menelaus, aphrodite saved paris when he was about to be finished off.

after the duel between those two people, there was a truce between the greek alliance and troy. however, both hera and athena were not happy to see it. hera pursued her husband zeus: now, will you send athena to make the troyjans break the peace?(page 22) then with zeussquo;s permission, athena went down to start the war again and finally she brought the greeks to success.

from the whole story, we can see that in ancient greekssquo; view, gods sometimes played a much more important role in their life. however, with the rapid development of science, we have learned that the greek gods never existed. this is why a recent movie of troy has not mentioned a single god. everything happened due to mensquo;s ambition, love, loyalty or jealousy. with those emotion and peoplesquo;s effort, we human beings can accomplish wonders and be master of the world.

god are of less importance than they used to be. nonetheless, the gods and goddesses made the story of troy more mysterious and marvelous.

i have learnt from the book more than the wonderful story of history, love and war. i believe that human can determine their destiny by their own. i highly recommend this book to my friends with the same interest.

《飘》英语读后感篇3

these days, i finished reading a book, called "oliver twist"

"oliver twist" is one of the biggest british novelist, charles dickenss 1838 novel, is also one of his representative works.

this book reflects the early 19th century british society at the bottom of the life, the hero oliver, let me very sympathetic to the sad. he was 11 years old, but in life, every day do not have enough to eat and wear not warm, and a few times go den, but he didnt and they together crime, would rather tortured colluding with them, and with a strong will to resist the bad bullying and temptation, later merry lady saved oliver, and took him in. after a period of time, and oliver lived a happy life.

after read this book, my heart cant be calm once in a long time, the heroines age and i like big, but, compared with his, our life is how of happiness, but we still dont meet, meet a little difficult, give up, lack of willpower. i want to learn oliver, strong quality, overcome all difficulties and obstacles, to cherish everything now, study hard, become a useful person to society.

the impression after reading “treasure island”“treasure island ” is a well-known adventure story book.

after reading treasure island, i thought that it ’s important to be brave. if we want to gain the character of brave, we should be ready to take risk, dare to explore the new area along our lives. in other words, if we want be survive and successful, we should be adventurers in the sea of life. it is said that the best stock exchange brokers in america are people who are used to be athletes and not the graduates of finance. therefore the parents should give their children the chance to adventure. however, parents always tell their children what to do, when to do, how to do and why to do. in this way, parents become the masters, while the children ,to some extant, become the servants. they may dare not to do anything at all, which absolutely is not the purpose of parents.

so you can see from the story that greed and desire will never bring a wonderful life.
